Strategic Planning
Running an Organization Without a Business Plan...
...is like putting on a play without a script
Some of the most common concerns heard from humane administrators and board members include...
- "We're not sure how to move forward."
- "We have good people, but we're not making progress."
- "We're stuck!"
In almost all cases, these organizations have not developed a strategic plan...Or perhaps they wrote a plan but didn't follow it and it now sits in a bottom drawer. If this sounds familiar, you've got lots of company; so many non-profit humane organizations today are running without a script.
At Humane Logic we feel strongly about how strategic plans can and should be used for local humane agencies. The type of business plan that might be used for a large for-profit business would likely not be helpful for the local sheltering/rescue organization. Our field has different needs and requires a different approach to business planning.
Humane Logic helps local non-profit humane organizations with developing effective plans that are straightforward to develop, easy to maintain, and will serve as the organization's script to their future.
This one-day strategic planning session will provide the board and executive staff with the information they need to build and maintain an effective strategic plan. In the course of this day-long workshop the participants will discuss and come to agreement on vision, mission and overarching goals and objectives. They will further discuss priorities based on a brief SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis. The facilitator will lead the group through how a modern strategic plan works on a yearly, monthly and daily basis.
This day-long session will include the following:
- Determination of the primary issues that affect the organization
- Review of, or development of...
- Vision Statement
- Mission Statement
- Overarching goals and objectives
- SWOT Analysis
- Committee review
- Board Development primer
- Major gift acquisition primer
- More!
One of the most common complaints board members and humane executives have is that of "We are stuck!" This workshop will unstick the organization. Humane Logic can even help conduct follow-up sessions to ensure that the progress made is progress kept.
The bottom drawer is for a box of facial tissue, not your strategic plan!
